A coronavirus can cause respiratory symptoms similar to flu or cold. The virus that is causing the current outbreak is called SARS-CoV-2. It’s the same virus that caused an epidemic in 2003, also known as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The new virus is spreading faster and faster than the one that led to SARS. It is also spreading further than the SARS CoV-1 virus during its outbreak.
The disease spreads via tiny droplets Coronavirus or particles — aerosols — that are released when someone who is infected coughs, sneezes or speaks. The virus can remain in the air for hours and then you can breathe them in or touch them on surfaces. People can get infected by touching a surface or person, then breathing into the virus or placing their hands in their eyes, mouth, or nose. Some people will not show any signs, and might not even realize they have the disease. Others may become sick.
Nearly everyone experiences an infection from coronavirus at minimum once in their lives typically when they are children. Most cases are mild, and they go away on their oown. However, some cases may be quite severe. Scientists are trying to find a cure.
